Salt Lake Gypsy

Set in Gnowangerup, an hour and a half north of the Albany township, this whimsical salt lake collaborative shoot was dreamt up by talented local creatives Ashleigh, Holii and Lucy. Denmark natives, Ash and Holii are the impressive photography duo behind In the Wilds of Someplace and wanted to create a dreamy photoshoot that combined their own unique Australiana flair with an unusual mix of Moroccan and Joshua Tree National Park style.Lucy is the owner of distinct local floristry business The Floral Folk Co. and lives on a property at the foot of the stunning Stirling Ranges. It was not far away from this location that was chosen to capture the raw beauty of the eloping ‘Salt Lake Gypsy’. The rugged surrounding terrain was reflected in the magical colour palette of the shoot, combining pastels with pink, nude and earthy tones. In a pleasant turn of events, a prescribed burn was scheduled in the surrounding bushland with the resulting smoke adding a sense of wilderness to the landscape.

Much of the furniture featured in the shoot was supplied by Lucy herself with the remaining pieces sourced from up-and-coming Denmark hire company Showgoat Vintage. Lucy’s former business partner Justine brought her kelpie sheepdog Chuck along for the day’s events and he proved to be an unexpected but impressive prop.

The team aimed to capture an effortless feel and young model, Ebony Raine Bailey was the perfect choice to reflect this natural look. At only sixteen years of age, incredible local makeup artist Abbey from ADH Makeup focused on using a palette filled with soft coppery tones whilst hairdresser Bronte from Tangles Hair Studio styled Ebony’s locks to perfection, opting for messy waves that enhanced the flower crown. Ebony’s gown was provided by Holii’s friend, Cleo Borrello, a Perth-based designer who creates stunning wedding attire.

The resulting images speak for themselves and truly portray the extraordinary individual talents of all the vendors involved. The team had a fantastic day creating the stunning scenes and Holii was especially impressed by the floral crown Ebony donned in many of the photographs.

Lucy did an amazing job on both the crown and bouquet. The pampas added a desert vibe and the combination of dark foliage with berries made the creamy pinks and pastels really pop.

We would like to give special thanks to In the Wilds of Someplace for providing us with the magnificent array of images along with all of those involved in the collaboration.
